Wisdom Teeth

Wisdom Teeth Presentation

To provide you with a better understanding of wisdom teeth, we have provided the following multimedia presentation. Many common questions pertaining to wisdom teeth are discussed.

Having trouble? Please make sure you have version 9 of the Flash browser plugin in order to correctly view this presentation. This software is available as a free download.

The furthest teeth in the back of your mouth and the last teeth to erupt are your wisdom teeth.

Why Should I Have My Wisdom Teeth Removed?

  • Wisdom teeth can damage adjacent teeth
  • Poorly positioned wisdom teeth can cause infection
  • Patients can experience pain during eruption
  • Wisdom teeth can be associated with cyst (fluid filled sac) formation.
  • Preparation for Orthodontics (braces)

It is best to remove them between the ages of 15-25 although removal can be performed before 14 or after 25 depending on the patient.

Oral Examination

Dr. Farnad will perform a full oral exam and take a 3D CT scan (Xray) before removing your wisdom teeth. We will show you what way your wisdom teeth are erupting within your jawbones.

Removal

Removal of your wisdom teeth can be performed under local anesthesia, nitrous oxide (laughing gas), IV sedation. We will further discuss your anesthesia options, the risk and benefits of the procedure, and post- operative instructions during the consultation.

Wisdom Tooth Removal Overview

For a brief narrated overview of the wisdom tooth removal process, please click the image on the right. It will launch our flash educational MiniModule in a separate window that may answer some of your questions about wisdom teeth.
